Staff / Lead Embedded Firmware Engineer – RTOS

We are seeking an experienced Staff / Lead Embedded Software Engineer specializing in
real-time operating systems and microcontroller-based platforms.
The opportunity is part of an advanced automotive engineering project delivered delivered
through technology, engineering company, supporting and delivering specialized software
and engineering initiatives for international clients.
You will contribute to the development, debugging, and validation of automotive Electronic
Control Units (ECUs), working directly with hardware, firmware, and system engineering
teams.
If you enjoy solving complex low-level challenges and understanding exactly how software
interacts with physical hardware, this project could be a great fit.

Responsibilities

  • Lead firmware development, debugging, and validation for RTOS-based automotive
    ECUs.
  • Perform board bring-up, hardware/software integration, and low-level driver
    development.
  • Develop and troubleshoot embedded software running on microcontrollers and real-
    time operating systems.
  • Investigate complex issues involving interrupts, scheduling, memory, and peripheral
    communication.
  • Debug hardware using JTAG/SWD, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and laboratory
    equipment.
  • Support hardware design changes, component qualification, and ECU reliability.
  • Collaborate with hardware engineers, architects, and other technical teams while
    providing technical guidance.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in Embedded Software or Firmware Engineering.
  • Strong Embedded C/C++ programming skills.
  • Hands-on experience with microcontrollers and real-time operating systems (RTOS).
  • Practical experience with board bring-up, low-level drivers, and hardware debugging.
  • Good understanding of MCU peripherals, interrupts, and hardware interfaces.
  • Ability to independently troubleshoot complex embedded systems and provide technical guidance.

Nice to Have

  • FreeRTOS, SafeRTOS, or comparable RTOS platforms.
  • Infineon AURIX, NXP S32, or other automotive MCUs.
  • Automotive ECU development, CAN, UDS, or Ethernet.
  • JTAG/SWD, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, BSP/HAL development.
  • Python, Rust, or ISO 26262 awareness.

Client offers:

  • Hands-on embedded engineering – work directly with microcontrollers, RTOS, and
    real hardware.
  • Technical leadership – take ownership of challenging engineering problems and
    contribute to key technical decisions.
  • Advanced automotive technology – support sophisticated ECU platforms and their
    long-term reliability.
  • Competitive compensation – $190,000–$270,000 USD annualized contract rate.
